Did you know that after all the formalities of a 4 hour reception, dancing is usually limited to 1.5-2 hours? Every extra activity chips away at the already limited time. If your idea of an epic wedding celebration is a party and lots of dancing with your guests, we would caution you against adding too many additional entertainment experiences. These include but are not limited to outdoor games, firepits, shoe game, food trucks etc. While you want to give your guests a memorable experience, having too many activities will distract from the celebration on the dance floor.
On to the big question–what’s the best order of events? Well first, there are a few things to consider. By the time the reception starts both you and your guests have already had a very long day so don’t delay the food service. Also, not everyone is coming to party. Your non-party goers stick around just long enough for a slice of cake before they slide out the door. Don’t force them to stay too long, try to have the cake cutting within 2 hours of your reception starting. To save time, schedule activities such as toasts, presentations, games, etc. during the dinner service. Scheduling these activities during dinner service is especially helpful if your photographer is scheduled to leave before the end of the night. It also opens up your timeline for maximum dancing and ensures that you get photos of all your special moments.
