Devail here!
I wanted to give an update on 196 Events and also update you on our personal lives. Nikki and I are always working to guarantee we bring the party to each of our wedding receptions. I provide the soundtrack while Nikki manages the photo booth. If there’s no photo booth then Nikki helps me run the timeline and grab those behind the scene shots that you love to see on our Instagram.
The year 2022 is slated to be one of our busiest years yet, so we are already knee deep in all things weddings. As a result, we have several three wedding weekends lined up. (pray our strength) However, we still guarantee an epic celebration for every reception. Thank you to all the couples who continue to make this possible!
In July 2021, I finally “retired” from Corporate America after 18 years of working in the financial industry. I’m still in disbelief over this change in our lives. Going from a structured, mostly guaranteed income to then becoming a full-time, self-employed DJ has been quite the adjustment! It’s even crazy to type that I support my family as a DJ Wedding Professional. This change gives me peace like I’ve never felt. I get to devote my time to something my wife and I created and we get to make it better. Monday thru Friday with our family, homeschooling our kids (mostly Nikki, I jump in from time to time), planning trips, playing golf with my father-in-law, and creating memories. I didn’t know a life like this was possible.
We’re programmed to believe we have to go to school, get a job, work until you’re 65, retire, then try to enjoy life. I thank God for showing me there’s a side A and a side B of the tape. I know I’m aging myself by writing about cassette tapes. 🙂 For me, side A was good but I flipped the tape to side B and got even more. More time with my wife, more time to devote to making our business thrive, more time with our kids, more time to give back to the community, more time to just be.
Everyone has the ability to pivot. So, if you have a dream, chase it. No matter how old you are or how you’ve lived, God has a purpose for your life. I can testify to that. Obviously, I haven’t lived the perfect life. I’ve made countless terrible decisions. Some in which I didn’t think I would ever recover from. If I’m honest, I still have my days where I struggle to live Christ-like. By and large we’ve all been there, if you haven’t just live a little longer. Are you “stuck” in a place of doubt? I’m challenging you to try this exercise. This is for married couples or singles.
Create a vision board. For help getting started, check out our blog, What’s On Your Vision Board? My wife’s vision board triggered our dreaming.
So, make it fun! Nikki and I try to reset every year by having a “dream” date. It’s simply a weekend trip away from the kids where we can talk about our vision and dreams. Try it.
Need help getting started? We can help! Just give us a shout.
Peace,
Devail
