It’s no secret that 2020 has been a tumultuous year for many families, businesses, schools, and everyone in between. The wedding industry was no exception. Couples and wedding vendors across the country all felt the impact of what 2020 has brought us. None more impactful than COVID-19. 

The wedding industry hinges on being able to come together in large groups. However, as the coronavirus continues into 2021, many states are still banning large gatherings and encouraging social distancing to slow down the spread. For several of our couples this meant postponing or even cancelling their weddings. While I wish that 2021 was a magical cure for all the woes of 2020, that just isn’t the case. Engagement season (“booking season” for us vendors)  is generally November-February. Unfortunately, with so much uncertainty surrounding travel and social gatherings, couples are fearful about planning a big wedding. 

Enter the Micro Wedding

A small wedding may not be what you envisioned for your wedding day but I promise you it’s better than you think. There are definitely some amazing perks for couples who choose to have a more intimate wedding celebration.

Small wedding = Small budget

At $100 per plate, 50 guests vs 150 guests is tremendous savings! Seriously, the math is simple. You can use that extra money to splurge on your dream dress or maybe your favorite DJ 😉  

Celebrate with those who matter to you.

Keeping the guest list short means inviting those closest to you and those truly interested in celebrating WITH YOU on your special day.  Your guests will feel more engaged and less like a spectator at a more cozy event. Most of our 2020 weddings had under 60 guests yet they had more energy than some of our 200 guest weddings! 

Quality time with the people at your wedding.

Greeting all the guests has become a huge priority for couples but it can be a daunting task. Newlyweds are actually designating nearly an hour for it on their timelines. So, it’s a no brainer that having less guests will take the stress out of making your rounds for the, “congratulations, you look amazing, can we get a pic with you?” conversation.

More options for the perfect venue.

Have you ever seen a beautiful archway that would be ideal for a wedding but the space was too small? Scaling back opens up so many options for the perfect venue. Maybe it’s the library where you first met, or the  brewery where you had your first date. Having the freedom to choose a venue based on its meaningfulness and not its guest capacity will make your wedding day even more memorable! 

Less Stress!

Weddings have so many moving parts. With a smaller guest list, the logistics are often a lot less complex and easier to manage. If some last minute changes come up it’s a lot easier to make adjustments with only 50 or so guests. Overall, your wedding will be more relaxed allowing you to enjoy every second of what is sure to be a spectacular day! 

Do what feels right!

A small wedding isn’t for everyone, but hopefully this blog has given you some insight on just a few of the awesome perks of having an micro wedding. While intimate weddings open up a world of unique & unlimited possibilities, the most important thing to remember is that this is all about you, so do what feels right for the two of you. It doesn’t have to be like the last wedding you attended or follow typical wedding traditions. Do you!!
